Our History
Display cabinet in curly teak with hand carved and textured surfaces, built for the Bryn Athyn Cathedral.
The Bostock Company had its beginnings in the countless hours that its founder, Glenn Bostock, spent as a child building with wood in his parents' basement. Glenn went on to get a degree in Fine Woodworking from Bucks County Community College and apprenticed making ecclesiastical furniture at the Bryn Athyn Cathedral, in Bryn Athyn, PA. In 1983, he opened his own shop in historic Bucks County, PA, where he specialized in high-end furniture and custom cabinets. Greg Glebe, a fellow Bucks graduate and the founder of the high-end easel manufacturer Xylem Design, has been a life-long friend and has consulted on many of the manufacturing and business decisions facing the Bostock Company over the years.
Glenn built his first elevator interior in 1990, when his father and mentor, Peter G. Bostock, was a partner in an elevator maintenance company. Glenn's father recognized a need for remodeling existing elevators, and over the next seven years, elevator remodeling became a larger and larger part of Glenn's business. The more elevator interiors he remodeled, the more Glenn found that existing remodeling practices were needlessly complex and time-consuming. He soon developed and patented a system of interlocking panels that lowered the cost, improved the quality, and simplified the job. Glenn completed the transition from craftsman to manufacturer in 1995 with the help of the consulting firm ABG Partners, consisting of Ed Asplundh (retired president and CEO of Asplundh Tree Company), Dick Brickman (retired president and CEO of Brickman Co.), and Howard Gurney, who is retired from Comerica Bank.
This 1,200-square-foot barn was the Bostock Company's first shop in Historic Bucks County, PA, just down the road from Doylestown.
